Professor Dr. Ziqiang Pan
Dr. Ziqiang Pan is currently Chairman of the Committee of Science and Technology of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC). He is also Academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of the China Radiation Protection Association.
After graduating from Beijing University in Nuclear Physics in 1957, Dr. Pan carried out a wide range of research work for radiation protection monitoring techniques, and set forth China's scientific framework of health physics. He has been working in the field of radiation protection and took the lead in launching research programmes for solutions and guidance to key problems in radiation protection.
Dr. Pan has developed a radiation protection plan for heavy water reactor construction, methodologies of natural radiation background survey and public dose assessment, and methods of energy and environmental assessment. He has contributed to radiation protection standards, nuclear accident emergency and radioactive waste safety in China. Dr. Pan was a member of the Main Commission of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP).
Dr. Pan has been the representative of China to UNSCEAR since 1996.
