Siarhei Sychyk

Dr. Siarhei Sychyk is Director of the National Scientific Practical Center of Hygiene, a scientific and technical supporting organization on health protection and radiation safety for the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. He has worked at the Belorussian State Medical University and headed the Department at the Ministry of Health. His main areas of expertise are radiation protection, dose assessment, radiation health consequences.

Dr. Sychyk holds a Ph.D in Medical Sciences in the field of radiation hygiene «Health of children are exposed in utero after Chernobyl accident».

Dr. Sychyk has scientific experience in the field of radiation medicine and relevant scientific publications in supervised areas of scientific research. He leads research investigations and technical projects on the radiation safety in the Republic of Belarus, preparing analytical and national reports for the national and international community, represents the Republic of Belarus in international organizations.

Dr. Sychyk is the representative of the Republic of Belarus to UNSCEAR for its 70th session in 2023.

Alena Nikalayenka

Dr. Alena Nikalayenka is the head of the Radiation Safety Laboratory of the National Scientific Practical Center of Hygiene of the Ministry of Health (Minsk, the Republic of Belarus). Ms. Nikalayenka is the leading specialist on radiation hygiene and safety of the Ministry of Health and Scientific Secretary of the National Commission of Radiation Protection of Belarus under the Council of Ministries since 2009. She obtained her Ph.D. in medical sciences on radiation protection in 2006.

Ms. Nikalayenka has worked at the Scientific and Clinical Institute of Radiation Medicine and Endocrinology and Institute of Radiology (now called republican scientific and practical center for radiation medicine and human ecology).

Her main areas of expertise and research interest are radiation protection, dose assessment, health effects of ionizing radiation, particualary the health consequences of the Chornobyl accident.

She has lead research investigations and technical projects on radiation protection of public and workers in nuclear energy, medicine, and on identification of features of the population exposure living at all exposure situations: planed, emergency and existing exposure situations.

Dr. Nikalayenka has been a member of the Belarus delegation at UNSCEAR since 2014, was the alternate of representative in 2019 and again since 2023.
