Mohammad Reza Kardan

Dr. Mohammad Reza Kardan is Head of Iran Nuclear Regulatory Authority (INRA)

He received a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering and MSc degree in Nuclear Engineering form Sharif University of Technology followed by a doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Amir Kabir University of Technology.

Dr. Kardan held several research positions in Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute (NSTRI). He became Director of National Radiation Protection Department, later Head of Reactor and Nuclear Safety Research School. He was also appointed as Vice-President of Alborz Health and Agriculture Research Center.

Dr. Kardan has worked as a consultant, lecturer and radiation protection expert for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He has been member of Radiation Safety Standard Committee (RASSC) and Transport Safety Standard Committee (TRANSSC) for more than 10 years.

Dr. Kardan was the observer of the Islamic Republic of Iran to UNSCEAR for its 65th and 66th sessions and is it representative for the 69th in 2022.

Abbas Rahimi Khoshmakani

Dr. Abbas Rahimi Khoshmakani is Director-General of Environmental Protection, Radiation Emergency and Monitoring Department of Iran Nuclear Regulatory Authority. He was appointed as Director of National Radiation Protection Department from 2018 to 2022. He is a senior expert in Radiation Protection, Radiation Detection and Dosimetry, and Radiation Emergency Management.

Dr. Rahimi graduated from Amir Kabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He studied Nuclear Engineering with a specialization of Radiation Application. In 2019, he obtained a PhD from Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute, Tehran, Iran.

Dr. Rahimi has been member of Radiation Safety Standard Committee and now is member of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Standards Committee of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

His main research interests are radiation detection and dosimetry, radiation protection, radon measurements and dose assessment.

Dr. Rahimi represented the Islamic Republic of Iran as observer to UNSCEAR for the 67th and 68th sessions. He is the alternate representative for the 70th session in 2023.
